The Pacific Coast is varied and full of contrasts – you can explore the dark sand of the beaches and green trees in the jungle, you can spot the humpback whales and listen to soothing sounds of the birds or the rhythms of the currulao music.
One of the better known destinations along the Colombia Pacific Coast is Bahia Solano in the Choco department. Its landscape is fantastic for anyone interested in nature and wildlife.
You can visit the jungle and mangroves, check out the coral reefs and spot the migratory birds, turtles or humpback whales.
Other great places to visit in the area are Nuqui and Tumaco. Nuqui is known for its beautiful beaches, waterfalls and jungle feel. It is great to spot whales during whale season and for water sport activities.
Tumaco, located in Nariño, on the other hand is fantastic if you want to learn more about the influence on the city by African culture and the cultures of the indigenous communities located in the El Morro, El Bajito, and Bocagrande beaches.
If you are interested to learn more about Pacific Culture, the Petronio Álvarez Pacific Music Festival, would be a great opportunity to do so. The Festival in Cali celebrates the cultural heritage, bringing together people from all around the world.
Once there, you should not miss the opportunity to try the Pacific cuisine – a blend of unique flavours create dishes like aborrajado de pescado (battered fish), crab empanadas, quebrado, los huevos de piando (a dish made with eggs), and many more.
The best time to visit the pacific coast to watch the humpback whales is between July and October. The whales travel from Antarctica to the Pacific to give birth and remain there until their calves a strong enough to migrate. It is a truly unique experience.
